A novel missense mutation in the second extra cellular domain of GJB2, p.Ser183Phe, causes a syndrome of focal palmoplantar keratoderma with deafness acceptable for publication in The American Journal of Pathology. In addition to print publication, the article will be published online. Chapter two...whoea!

The "proofs" of the first chapter of my PhD thesis are in: A novel missense mutation in GJB2 disturbs gap junction protein transport and causes focal palmoplantar keratoderma with deafness. J Med Genet. 2007 Nov 12; [Epub ahead of print]. (The JID didn't want it, so why not be succesfull in a journal with a higher impact factor?!)

Cambridge. Here we spent a week at the history oozing campus following the excellent basic course biology of the skin.
Cambridge is a mozaic of different College's with each their own buildings, students and traditions. The cousre was quite busy. Our fellow attendants were a melange of residents, dematologists and researchers. An complementary social program was great fun, and kept us focussed during the lectures.

The Glasgow adventure is done. With the financial support of a geneskin travel grant three months of excelent training by Patricia Martin, whoam tought me a great deal of connexins and research were made possible. I can look back at an exciting and really fun time. My fellow PhD students in the lab were very hospitable and they involved me in their personal lifes for which I am very gratefull. The research gained momentum, it was fantastc!
